From co-president Karen McDonald - Updated Information Included!!

So sorry to hear that we had a small showing at our monthly social last Tuesday, maybe an evening family picnic would work as our summer weather begins.

This coming Tuesday we have Teacher Appreciation for a teacher from Williams Ranch School and another teacher from Pleasant Valley School.  Please be in attendance to show our support of our teachers!  Our speaker will be from the Western Sierra Medical Clinic, Cheryl Rubin. Our members with responsibilities for May 23 are:

Greeter:  Bob Kline or Karen McDonald
Pledge:  Frank Luporini
Invocation:  Earl Langguth
4Way Test:  Greg Marshall

Dan Halloran led a wonderful District 5190 Golf Tournament at Red Hawk Golf Club in Sparks. Sixty golfers including our own Jim McCabe and Phil Conlon participated. It was a beautiful day of golf and fellowship. Dave Walker, Dan Halloran, Doug McDonald and I attended the District 5190 Conference in Reno for the remainder of the weekend. While our club has not taken home any awards this year, our local Nevada Union High School Interact Club won several awards – District's Best Interact Club being the best! Congratulations to junior Bonnie Brown and advisor Gordon Beatie for all their hard work to present exciting programs and activities to the students of Nevada Union. The activities list includes Purple Pinkie Fundraisers for Polio Plus, Shelter Box fundraisers and a dental support trip to rural Mexico.

Update from District Conference:  At Saturday afternoon's District Music Contest, our club's delegate, Evan Rashby, came in 3rd Place!  Then at Saturday night's dinner, our club received a Governor's Citation, which is handed out to the clubs who have already achieved the Presidential Citation!!  Much thanks to our club for their involvement in all of our activities with a special shout out to those who gave to the Rotary Foundation and to Debbi Corbett for keeping us moving forward on our donations!  Great Job Rotary Club of Penn Valley!!

Mark your calendar for next year’s District 5190's Conference, May 18th-20th, 2018, RENO.

Our District Scholarship applicant was accepted for the scholarship – McKenna Gallagher, senior at NU, accepted at University of Portland to study nursing.  Thank you, Barbara Ross, for all your time and talent in helping to find a worthy recipient for the District scholarship. Your hard work does not go unnoticed by any of our club members and members of our area clubs.
