Our July 26 meeting was a great mix of work and pleasure.

It was a great pleasure to introduce NU seniors Ryan MacDonald and Rose McGill to the Club. Ryan and Rose attended RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) camp earlier this month. Both mentioned it was a great experience, meeting and interacting with other students from around Northern California and Nevada, experiencing the high elements of a ROPES course, addressing fears and shortcomings and acknowledging their strengths.  They were introduced to the 4-Way Test and collaborated daily to see how it fits into their lives and the world around them.  Ryan and Rose each had special memories of the week; Rose had attended REGL as an eighth grader and was determined that this week she would conquer the Leap of Faith high ROPES course element while being more out going and a leader for her cabin.  Ryan found that he was the quiet, non-emotional one in his group, but he learned how to engage his feelings and openly voice support during group activities.  We hope that they keep in touch with our Club and come back to speak about their senior year experience at NU.

Barbara Ross encouraged members to help work the Roots and Wings Wine Cruise on Saturday, August 6.  If you are able to support the program by working at the stop co-hosted by the Penn Valley Chamber and Rotary Club of Penn Valley please call Barbara for times and location.  A special raffle was held to select a Club member to use two tickets to this wonderful sold out event.  Pat Swope was the winner.  Enjoy!

Remember that our annual dues are due.  Doug McDonald has sent out an invoice by email for the $150 commitment.  Please submit your check payable to the Rotary Club of Penn Valley as soon as possible, and if you need to set up a payment plan talk with Dan Halloran.

Along with the dues email you also received an invoice for The Rotary Foundation.  A minimum $100 donation is requested.  The Rotary Foundation is the organization that supports Polio Plus eradication efforts, Global Grant projects, and District Simplified Grants in our community.

Your donation to The Rotary Foundation is tax deductible and should be made by a separate check, which the Club will send to the international organization. You are also able to go on the myrotary.org website and use Rotary Direct to make a donation directly and set up payments on your credit card if you prefer.  Remember that your donation counts toward recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow, presented when total donations reach $1000 or multiple.

Bob Kline and Dave Walker were recognized for reaching “Bell Ringer” status by contributing at least $100 to our club in the form of “fun fines.”

Jeanne Puleo notified us that Beth Landis is in need of our prayers and positive thoughts from us.  Jeanne will keep us informed on her health.

Mark your calendar for our Bring A Friend BBQ Fundraiser – Saturday, October 1 – Western Gateway Park.  More information to come!  Plus - RiverCats Game – Friday, August 19, 5:30 Kmart parking lot.

Michael Green received a warm welcome back and was “pinned” Sgt.-at-Arms for this year!  Thanks, Michael for your commitment to our club and we are glad to have you back and healthy!

The Rotary Club of Penn Valley along with the other Area 4 Rotary Clubs are pleased to announce that Travis Perry, 2016 graduate from Bear River, has received formal approval for the Rotary District 5190 Matching Scholarship Grant.  Travis will be receiving a total of $3500 from the District and Area 4 Rotary Clubs to help defray the cost of his first year at Chico State this fall.  We look forward to having Travis speak at a future Club meeting about his college journey.  Congratulations Travis!

Our next meeting is Tuesday, August 2 at noon.  Our members who have meeting responsibilities are:  Greeter – Mike Dobbins, Pledge – Torie England, Invocation – Mark Fleming and 4-Way Test – Barry Gray.
