December kicks off Disease Prevention and Treatment Month for Rotary. Our speaker, Dr. Brian Evans, from Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital talked about the need to recognize our local hospital as a gem for being here to serve us for our medical needs. Rural hospitals are hard to staff and fund but our Sierra Nevada Memorial has a strong, dedicated staff and a strong Foundation to support updating the facility.

We are going to be busy the next few weeks with exciting and fun activities. Dave and I hope you are able to join us for the holiday happenings:
  • Food Basket Project – starting at 8am, Thursday, Dec 15 at Holiday Market, Penn Valley, moving to the schools. Contact Debbi or Nicole for more information.
  • Holiday Party for Club members and spouses will be on Friday, Dec 16, 5:30 at Betty Cook’s home– bring your food item and if you want to be involved with the Pirate Gift Swap, you need to bring a gift around $10, wrapped. Contact Mark for more information.
  • Second weekend for WOW Points solicitors at the Holiday Market is Saturday, Dec 17 – contact Debbi for more information.
  • Bell-ringing to support the Salvation Army Drive will happen Saturday, Dec 17 as well – contact Barbara for more details.
  • We had a great lights display at the Holiday Lights in the Park this past Friday and Saturday. The crew had fun working to setup even in the rain. Thanks to Nicole, Matt, Darleen, Barbara, Doug, and Mike for their joyful smiles and helpful hands with setting up, to Dave W. for getting the signs ordered and to Hannah for a display item. Our display looked festive and bright.
Other club news:
  • Barbara was able to procure additional money for our student scholarship totaling $4500 for his first year at Chico State. Way to go Barbara!
  • John Edmonds received his membership badge.
  • Dr. George Broder received his certificate and pin for becoming a Paul Harris Fellow. Congratulations George! Thank you for your support of the Rotary Foundation and its great works in the world.

  • Don’t forget the Board meeting at 11am on Tuesday.
Our speaker will be Marcia Salter, Auditor Controller for Nevada County.
Please put our Student-of-the-Month dates on your calendar: Jan 10 and 24.
