Dear Rotarians:

Happy 23rd Anniversary of our Club's existence last Thursday, March 17th. Also Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Hope you wore something green.

At last week's meeting, Dave Walker, in Karen’s absence, announced their 2017-17 officers and committee chairs. Thank all those involved for stepping up. Should be a great new year ahead.

All new officers and committee chairs should consider attending the Club Leadership Assembly on Saturday, April 9th at the Atlantis in Reno. This is a great opportunity to learn your responsibilities in your new position. There is no cost to the member and it includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Register on the District 5190 website at www.rotarydistrict5190.org.

Thank you to Bob Kline for organizing our work day at Western Gateway's bike park this Saturday at 8:00am. We will more than likely finish by noon and end up at Player’s for lunch . Please consider helping in this endeavor.

The Area Club President’s meeting this month will be for the presidents and presidents-elect and will include our district governor and district governor-elect. It will be held at Lefty’s restaurant in Nevada City at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 23rd.

Our Area Speech Contest, which we are hosting, will act as our regular meeting on Tuesday, March 29th at the Methodist Church at 236 Church St. in Grass Valley. Jeanne will circulate a sign- up sheet. Lunch will be $16.00. Come support the winners of the high school speaking contests in each of our local Rotary Clubs who will compete to go on to the District competition at the District Conference in May.

I spoke with John Novak, the District's Sergeant-at-Arms, regarding the need for Sergeant of Arms staffing at the assembly and district conference. He has filled positions for the assembly but still needs volunteers for the conference, May 12-15. Please consider if able.

John Paul, CEO of Spiral Internet and member of the 49er Breakfast Rotary, presented an informative program last week on bringing high speed internet to our area. Technology tends to blow my mind.

Our program for this next week will be a craft talk by our own Sheila Grizzell.

See you Tuesday.
