Dear Rotarians:

Participation on Rotary at Work Day at Western Gateway Park last Saturday was minimal. Dan Halloran, Jeanne Puleo, my brother Bill and myself were there. What we did accomplish looks great. I would like our club to get more involved in the park on our work days. They are very understaffed and could use our help.

Nevada City Rotary has declined our help at their food booth at this summer's fair. They seem to want to tackle it themselves this year. We will see. This means, that under our new management next year, we will need to find a new fundraiser.

We will be recognizing three Teachers of the Year at our meeting on May 17th , one each from Williams Ranch, Pleasant Valley and Ready Springs. Dave Henderson will prepare certificates and I will be picking up flowers for each. Principals from each school will be there to introduce their teachers. Dave Walker has offered to pay for the teachers lunches. What a guy!!!!!!!! Please try to attend this meeting in support of our local teachers.

Western Gateway Park is looking for new board members, president and secretary for the upcoming year. If interested, call Jeri Stone at 432-4949. I think it would be good for our club to have at least one member involved in some capacity.

We had a great program last week, presented by Captain Jeff Pettitt from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office. He spoke of his 10 weeks at the FBI National Academy in Virginia. This was by invitation only. What an honor.

Our program for this week will be Skyping with youth exchange student Andrew Puleo in Germany prior to his returning home on June 28th.

See you Tuesday.
