From Karen McDonald
The Rotary Club of Penn Valley enjoyed a pizza day at Players on Tuesday.  Our program speaker was Brandon Davis of California Solar. Brandon, a Rotary alumnus of RYLA and Ambassadorial Scholar, is a member of Grass Valley Rotary.  He spoke about the solar power industry.

Mark Fleming happily reported that the 100 tickets for this Friday’s River Cats game (August 19) have been sold!  Those who are attending the event need to be at the K-Mart parking lot at 5pm, the buses will be leaving at 5:30pm.  A donation of two tickets will allow our bus drivers to attend the game also.  Snacks and drinks on board are included in your cost of the evening – food at the game is not included.  Checks for $42, payable to Rotary Club of Penn Valley, are due as soon as possible to Treasurer Dan.  Looks like we will have a fun evening watching the River Cats play the Iowa Cats.  Go River Cats!

Treasurer Dan requests that those who worked the elections in June be watching for a check from Nevada County for our services – the checks will be donated to the Penn Valley Rotary Foundation.  Remember also to pay your club dues - $150 payable to the Rotary Club of Penn Valley.

Club Administration Chair Barbara held a meeting this week with Travis Perry, the recipient of our Area 4 Clubs Matching District Scholarship Grant. Travis will be attending Chico State this fall.  We are hoping to have him speak to our club soon.

Rotary Foundation Debbi presented me with a Paul Harris Fellow +1.  Thank you to our secret supporter who generously donated “one for one” points that allowed me to obtain that recognition level.  Guess I’ll remember this one since it was given to me during the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the first donation to The Rotary Foundation.  Debbi and Pat are accepting your donations, payable to The Rotary Foundation, or you can make your donation on-line at  www.myrotary.org.

Youth Chair Jeanne informed us that our local students would be attending Camp Grizzly Creek near Portola for REGL (Rotary Eighth Grade Leadership) the weekend of September 23.  They are still looking for adult camp counselors, which Jeanne reports is a lot of FUN!

Barbara singing Happy Birthday to Mike Heauser was a highlight at our club meeting.

Greeter: Peter
Pledge: Rick
Invocation/Thought: Karen
