Your donations to The Rotary Foundation are not wasted on overhead. See below how much goes to the end user.
The Rotary Foundation recently earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the largest and most prestigious independent evaluator of nonprofits in the United States. In the 2013-14 Rotary year, 92 percent of the Foundation’s expenditures were applied to programs, with only 6 percent spent on fundraising and 2 percent on administrative expenses.
The Foundation funded $23.5 million in district grants and $47.3 million in global grants. These grants support local and international humanitarian projects as well as scholarships. Together with its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary has led the effort to end polio, contributing more than $1.3 billion to the initiative since its outset.
Just back from P.E.T.S. (President-Elect Training Seminar), Mark Fleming shared with the club last Tuesday all about his wonderful experience. He is very impressed with the quality of speakers, trainers, and his head is SPINNING. He shook hands with Rotary International President-Elect, K. R. “Ravi” Ravindran (from Sri Lanka) in the Hawaiian Hospitality Suite Saturday night. With Mark’s board joining him April 11 at Club Assembly in Reno for training and planning (the club pays for this event including lunch) we are in for a wonderful year, folks!!!!
Our own Doug McDonald shared the behind-the-scenes of P.E.T.S. as he was asked and accepted the responsibility of Sergeant-at-Arms. This is quite an honor, as there are only two from each district and both of District 5190’s hailed from Area 4. Lindy Beatie was the other Sergeant-at-Arms. Kudos to Area 4!!! I have asked both Mark and Doug to share about their experiences on our website this week. Please check out their inspiring remarks.
Jeanne Puleo did a grand job chairing the Speech Contest. Leo Zlimen is going to represent us very well on April 7 at the Grass Valley Methodist Church. We will be relocating our meeting of April 7th to the Grass Valley Methodist Church to support Leo and the other contestants. The meeting will begin at 12:15, but I recommend you arrive early as parking is at a premium. (There is parking up and behind the church). I am sure Jeanne will be sending around a pre-registration sign-up for lunches for April 7.
Doug graciously founded and has chaired the Distinguished Citizen Dinner multiple years and would very much like to turn the reigns over to a new chair this year. Next year and following, he will be in the throes of becoming District Governor. This would be a great opportunity for overlap and his direct guidance. Any takers? Maybe co-chairs???
