With the absence of the Draft Horse Classic fundraiser and the loss of the Fall Festival this year, it is critical that we all be thinking of a fundraising idea that we can implement prior to our next fundraiser, that being the Daffodil Run in April. I will be asking for volunteers at next week's meeting to form a committee to meet and brainstorm ideas of ways to make money. Please consider. The more the merrier.
The Rotary Foundation Dinner will be held at the Foothill Event Center in Grass Valley on November 19th at 5:30 pm. We will more than likely be dark Tuesday, November 17th in order to have a good representation from our club. Let’s support this event and Dan Halloran, our Foundation chair, for the efforts he has made to make our club 100% sustaining members this year. There are only two members that need to contribute to make this happen. As Dan reported, we are second in the district of 59 clubs in Foundation giving. That is amazing. Because of this, Dan was presented with a pin for Rotarian of the Month for the month of September.
Believe it or not, our speaker Shavati drew from a box of raffle tickets that Barbara held for the 50/50 raffle, which was to be drawn at the Fall Festival and Ted Ross’s ticket was pulled. Congratulations, Ted.
There will be a Board meeting next Tuesday at 11:00 AM prior to our regular meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend.
At our program this week, we will be Skyping with Andrew Puleo in Germany. Should be fun to hear how he is doing in another culture. Don’t miss this. See you Tuesday.
A number of our PV Rotarians played in the Roots and Wings Golf Tournament in support of the local School District on Sunday, October 4. I know at least the following played in the tournament, and there may have been others: Mike Dobbins, Gene Vander Plaats, Torie England and our foursome of Dan Halloran, Mark Fleming, Bob Kline, and Dave Walker.
My purpose in bringing this up, is that this tournament was the first time Dave Walker had played golf in some 40 years. On hole number 15, there was an optional feature that a player could (for a modest fee) use an air gun to shoot his drive instead of hitting the ball with a golf club. We chose Dave to use the air gun, and he sent the drive hurtling some 375 yards forward, enabling us to birdie the hole! The photo is of Dave aiming the airgun.
