It seems that after club assembly and further discussion that our focus on projects this year will center around our communities biggest asset, Western Gateway Park. Due to that conclusion, our speakers for the August 4th meeting will be Barry Pruett, Nancy Pierce and Phyllis Fox from the park board and the park itself. They will give us their visions in terms of project possibilities.
For projects to take place, our fundraisers become very important as well as getting help from The Rotary Foundation in the form of grants.
Thanks to everyone that have contributed to The Rotary Foundation to date. For those that haven’t, please climb aboard with your $100 minimum donation. My goal this year is to become a 100% Sustaining Membership Club with every member contributing at least $100. Remember that it works out to $1.92 per week and does not need to be paid in a lump sum.
Our RiverCats outing is coming up on Friday, August 21st. We will be joined by Rotarians from all of our local clubs. Cost is $40 per person and you can give your payment to Treasurer Phil.
Please register for the Foundation seminar in Incline Village, August 29th from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm with grant training following at 1:30 pm for those needing this training. It is a no-cost event and includes a continental breakfast and catered lunch with many Foundation programs. Carpooling would be advised. I registered on the district website (www.rotarydistrict5190.org) yesterday and will inform you how that is done on Tuesday at the regular meeting.
The Fall Festival organizing is getting a bit of a late start this year and Bob Kline has called for a meeting at 11:00 am August 4th prior to our regular meeting to discuss what needs to be done and assign duties to everyone interested in helping pull this event off. Please attend, as this could be a big money maker for the club. No one has offered to chair the event but a committee has stepped up to work together.
Thanks for Bellringer donations to date from Dan Halloran, Doug McDonald, Barbara Ross, Luis Vasquez and Dave Walker.
Anna Dillavou has offered to assist Bob Barbaro with holiday food baskets this year working with our local Holiday Market.
My apologies to Mike Dobbins and Dave Walker for cutting them short on their craft talks last week. It seems that 15 minutes is not enough. In the future, there will be one craft talk per meeting designated.
I am anxious to put my budget together for the year so we know how we can put our funds to work. We should have our last years financials worked out soon.
I am excited about the enthusiasm that the club is showing in my last few meetings and am looking forward to a fun productive year.
See you Tuesday.
