Does it get any better? To be able to recognize a member for their generous donations to Rotary International with their 4th Paul Harris Award and to induct one of your best friends into Rotary all on the same day is better than dark chocolate! (I was going to say so SWEET, but anyone who knows me, knows that dark chocolate is my weakness). Yes, Chuck Zavitzshared about being a blessing and contributed “a more than generous” check for his birthday only to be recognized by Bob Kline for his 4th Paul Harris! Congratulations, Chuck!
My dear friend and retired speech therapist, Darleen Won Golderwas inducted on Tuesday. She was accompanied by her husband, Dr. Bruce Golder, who is a retired dentist. Darleen’s grown daughter,Jade, is in her final semester at UC Santa Barbara studying chemical engineering.
At our Christmas party,Betty Cookinvited her new tenant,Pat Saylor. She accepted our invitation presented that evening by several of us to be a guest at a Rotary meeting. Pat has an online toy business, is a widow and just recently moved from the Truckee/Tahoe area.
Chuck Elizondo and Larry Faller joined us from the Grass Valley Rotary Club to share about their upcoming extravaganza – their club’s 90th anniversary celebration! Congratulations, Grass Valley Rotary on your longevity and powerful and historical Rotary presence in our community. The event will be March 16 at the Holiday Inn Express and Chuckwill return on February 17 with tickets for interested parties. The price is $45 each and the keynote speaker will be Rotary International past-President (2001-02) Richard King. He is quite the speaker and will take you from laughter to tears in a New York minute.
Bob Long, Grass Valley Rotary President-elect, also graced us with his presence. He mentioned he was there to see how a real Rotary Club was run. Thank goodness Eleanor Kenitzer, past-President of Nevada City Rotary was our guest speaker! She nailed the key to being a great president with her entertaining message about the Cornish Choir and even shared a recording of the choir performing at the Del Oro Theater. This recording was in 1946 for NBC with the announcer Dudley Manlove providing historical narrative. Eleanoralso exhibited her presidential authority, gently but firmly, by stating in the middle of her presentation, “Wake up, Eric.”
Stay tuned for more excitement……………………….a new baby announcement……………………and more………
