What a wonderful year we have enjoyed! I really treasure the memories I have as your president. June was no exception.
James Ronka gave us an overview of the SeaPerch Program, which is being introduced to junior high through high school students in our area thanks to donors’ sponsorship. The SeaPerch is an underwater robotic program which really taps into all areas of STEM education through hands on experience. You may check out more information about the program at
www.seaperch.org.
Even though I missed the June 23 meeting, I hear it went splendidly. Mark Fleming did an outstanding job presenting his craft talk as well as outlining his goals for next year. Thank you, Bob Kline, for leading the meeting.
Thank you all for a wonderful demotion party! Gene Vander Plaats created a very funny skit and his fill-in actor, Rick Nolle, sported the long brunette wig famously. Luis Vazquez involved us in the most fun “challenge quiz” ever including oversized “expensive” playing cards! I can’t wait for Hank Weston to cash in on his prize of a $1,000 matching donation towards his Arch C. Klumph Society membership. Did he really know Paul Harris’ blood type? Thanks to Earl Langguth for the beautiful poem and to Dan Halloran for his rendition of the “Oklahoma” song written with me in mind and to Bob Kline for performing it. Thank you, Dave Walker and Bob Kline, for coordinating this event and for having Don and Deanna Batson film the event. Thanks to Chris and Dale for providing a delicious meal as always.
Bob Barbaro was recognized with the Bob Henry Award for his tremendous support throughout my presidency, especially in the area of the Holiday Food Baskets, which earned us the Rotary International “Significant Achievement Award.” Pat Swope received the first ever Dr. Holger Rasmussen Award for her continuing to make a difference without seeking recognition or reward in her role as Program Chair for several years. The inaugural Don Fultz Award went to Bob Kline for his efforts in International Projects filling Don’s shoes upon his death as well as helping our club exceed our Polio Plus goal by 300%. It was extra special to have Kay Beeman, Betty Cook, Georgann Russell and her sister, Joanie and Carle Bumpus on hand to celebrate with us.
Thanks to all of you who contributed to The Rotary International Foundation this year. District 5190 set a record in giving. I believe that is why we are being honored with a visit by Rotary International Presdient K. R. “Ravi” Ravindran August 14th at the Atlantis in Reno. We already have a table of 8 registered for the special event including Luis Vazquez, Darleen Won Golder and her husband, Bruce Golder, Pat Swope and her husband, Bob Purcell, Joanie Bumpus, Ted Ross and myself. If you are interested in going, please go to http://tinyurl.com/An-Evening-with-Ravi immediately in order to guarantee your space.
I had the privilege of representing our club at the Grass Valley 4
th of July Parade.
Area 4 promoted the upcoming Demolition Derby during the event while have a great time together.
Thank you for a wonderful year and I look forward to a fabulous year with Mark Fleming at the helm. He needs your support, and, believe me, making a difference requires WE give it our best.
