Please remember The Rotary Foundation Dinner taking place on Thursday, November 19th at 5:30 pm at the Foothill Event Center in Grass Valley. The evening's speaker will be Ed Futa, former CEO of Rotary International. He is an outstanding speaker. The importance of what the Foundation is doing around the world will be highlighted in an interesting and informative -- and fun -- evening. Dinner will be $45.00 per person and wine will be available for purchase.
Our club is in charge of the bar that evening with proceeds going to Polio Plus. Rick and Susie Nolle and Bob Kline have offered to staff. We should all be there to support Dan Halloran with what he has accomplished in Foundation giving in our club especially this year. We will be dark on November 17th to encourage all to attend. Sign up with Dan at our next meeting.
Our fundraising committee met after the meeting last week and has come up with an immediate event to raise money for the club's charitable works in the community. It will be a BBQ at Gateway Park on Saturday the 14th of November beginning at 11:00 am. The details will be discussed at our meeting Tuesday as a club assembly. Please try to be there if you can.
As was mentioned last week, Rotarian Scott Kellermann was mugged and left unconscious in Kampala recently. Latest email says he will recover 100% and is joking about his current Halloween costume that is scaring most children. Scott continues to do so much good work in Uganda, much of it with Rotary Foundation grant assistance. We wish him only the best for a quick recovery.
October 24th was set as Polio Plus day internationally. The presidents of Area 4 have decided to move that day to Saturday November 7th at which time we will be taking donations in front of Holiday Market. Two 3-hour shifts are suggested with 2 members per shift. Jan and I will take 1 shift so we need 2 additional members for the second shift. The other 4 clubs will have different locations for the same purpose. There will be a celebration at Union 151 at 5:00 pm in Grass Valley for all clubs to share our success that day.
Thanks to Debbi Corbett for sharing her "craft talk" with us last week. We heard about her career as a city attorney, and more about her interests and hobbies in retirement. Great job, Debbi!
See you Tuesday, and have a great weekend.
