Lola and the short Term Exchange student...Short Term Exchange or STE is a relatively new program here in District 5190. It's a Family to Family exchange for a short period, usually a few weeks, during the summer...We'll hear about the exchange when Lola (our student) comes to visit with her STE student from Germany... ***************************************************************** Mark your calendars.... Next Hospitality House cooking - July 23 WOW point collections at Holiday Market/Penn Valley Gift cards that our club receives from the donation of WOW points when folks shop at Holiday Markets, go towards purchasing food for the Thrive Store at Ready Springs school and to the Holiday Baskets we provide for families in our community during the Holiday season... The Nevada City Rotary Club is partnering with First 5 Nevada County to launch Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Nevada County this summer! The Imagination Library is a book gifting program created by Dolly Parton to inspire a love of reading in young children, from birth to age five. The program sends high-quality, age-appropriate books directly to children’s homes each month at no cost to families, helping to build their home libraries and encourage early literacy. The Dollywood Foundation partners with local 501(c)(3) nonprofit and other dedicated organizations and local leaders in the community who work together as Local Program Partners. Our Rotary club of Penn Valley will be contributing to this program... First 5 Nevada County will have a booth at the fair (Aug 6-10) to sign up families for this program...if you would like to help staff the booth, contact Andrea Mason of Nevada City Rotary ... andrea@yubariver.org At the last meeting, Prez Lori asked each member to sign up for a task at the October event...please connect with Lori or come to the next meeting to get info on this club wide event...it's a all hands on deck to help raise funds for Polio Plus and the Western Gateway Dog Park... ***************************************************************************** International Service in our Area 4.. The Rotary Club of Nevada City 49er Breakfast Club will be going on a service trip October 17th – October 24 to San Miguel de Allende. This trip is open to our Area 4 Rotary clubs...Projects will be coordinated with the sister club of Rotary de San Miguel de Allende, an English-speaking club in the heart of Guanajuato, Mexico...this is the club that our Penn Valley Club donated funds to for greenhouses, water cisterns and composting toilets for local families - .... if you are interested in going, please contact Deborah Wilder of the 49er Breakfast club at deborah@wilderlawfirm.com POLIO PLUS INFO WORLD WIDE... Hurrah, we are back to a week with ZERO reported cases of children paralyzed by Wild Poliovirus Type 1 anywhere in the world, but  41 positive environmental samples. 9 children confirmed paralyzed by variant poliovirus type 2, but 7 of those had onset of paralysis in 2024 so will be counted in the 2024 totals.
