Western Gateway Bike Park Update
Here’s an update from Service Chair Bob Kline on where the Western Gateway Bike Park project stands:

1 - Master Plan drafting taking place at Nevada City Engineering - Revisions to the map can be made once the final shapes of the park elements (Bike Park, Disc Golf an Dog Park) are mapped.

2 – County Environmental Department will begin the initial phase of the Biological Report, the final element needed in order to submit the master plan revision to County Planning Department.

3 - The website has begun to form – Site developers will work at fleshing out the content.

4 – The committee will create a trifold and a small leave behind informational card for use in current and future fund development activities.

5 – The Committee will meet at the site to discuss the layout of the park elements.  Local skilled bike riders will be invited to join this meeting to furnish comments and design suggestions.

6 – The committee will continue to contact people they think may be interested in helping the project financially so that we can pay for the biological report and other current costs.

Items to consider in the near future:

1 - Look into options for getting water (possibly through a well) in order to support the eventual park elements - this discussion may include the dog park group as they also should be using well water.

2 - Work with Nevada City Engineering to include sufficient parking for the bike park in the design.

Dear Rotarians:

We are Dark (no meeting) this week in honor of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, per a club vote last week. This weekend we especially remember all those in our Club and across our country who have served our country, and we thank them for their service!

We will also be Dark on Tuesday, June 7th as many of us will be working the polling place, serving our community and giving our neighbors the opportunity to freely express their opinions through the voting process. All of our volunteers have attended the required training and look forward to serving under Precinct Inspector Dan Halloran!

Our next meeting will be June 14th, which is a must meeting for all. It was set by the Board as a member orientation hosted by our own District Governor Nominee Doug McDonald. He will cover the recent changes made by our Rotary leaders, and remind us of our own club culture and how we operate. This will be a great session for (relatively) new members and long-time members alike!

Last week, Susan Lima (a teacher from Williams Ranch School) was honored at our meeting as teacher of the year from that school with a certificate and flowers from our club. These teachers do amazing things for our children!
Jerrianne Van Dijk then presented an interesting program on her art work, emphasizing the murals she has done residential and commercial.

The Drew Reynolds Memorial Baseball Tournament takes place this weekend at Western Gateway Park. Thank you Barbara Ross with help from Greg Marshall for your hard work orchestrating this fundraiser. Stop by for a visit and find out who won the 50/50 drawing!

Mark your calendars, our Area 4 Sacramento Rivercats outing is scheduled on Friday, August 19th. We would love to fill 3 busses this year with local Rotarians and guests. Price to be determined as we get closer. It has been suggested that an additional $5.00 per ticket be designated to Polio Plus. Great idea.

See everyone on June 14th, and Happy Memorial Day.
