"Bula"...This is hello in Fijian. We learned about Verto Educational Programs from speaker Alex Rosprim. Her three month educational trip to the South Pacific was filled with cultural and environmental experiences for the new high school graduate. It was great living vicariously through her talk.

This week's speaker will be Stan Zabka. This time he'll talk about his experiences in Hollywood, working for the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Stan is an amazing man with a fun-filled story.

A Special Welcome to Brenda Bailes. She has been a visitor for three times now and is a new member of our community from Paradise. Brenda has much to offer our greater Penn Valley community with her years of experience in running a vintage shop.

Community projects -- Mark Bailey spoke about an opportunity for our club to partner with Sierra Harvest and Ready Springs School on an agricultural education program for middle schools students and to help renew the school garden. This would fufill one of our Visioning goals in the areas of both community service and vocational service in support of our local economy. More to come.

Area 4 Community Awards event -- If you have not already nominated a person or business, please consider the person super volunteer Tina Skrukrud!! She has been a constant support in our Penn Valley community for many, many years and would surely deserve recognition for all her hard work. Reservation information for the February 19th dinner will be online. Details to come.

Speech and Music Contest applications are still open. Check out our pvrotary.org website for application info on both these scholarship opportunities for high school students.

Prayers and Good Thoughts....go out to our good friend, Terry Brown. During a recent visit to Ethiopia, the risers he was sitting on while viewing a special ceremony collapsed and he found himself with broken ribs and punctured lung. He seems to be progressing well but keep him in your thoughts.

Soles4Souls -- the Rotary Club of Fernley is collecting flip-flops to send to Pakistan. Bring your new or gently used flip-flops to a club meeting and we'll get it to where they need to go...(not to the 76 station..LOL!!).

Also, the Nevada Union Interact Club is collecting gently used coats for their Coat Drive. This drive ends on February 18. Bring your used coats to the club meeting on Tuesday!
