Our meeting Tuesday, October 25, was a bit different. Oh, we had the usual opening to the meeting but then things started to go into high gear.
We were happy to see Rotarians George Broder, Debbi Corbett and Frank Luporini at the meeting – we have missed their smiles and voices.
We finished some unfinished business from our District Governor John Sullivan’s visit and awarded Dan Halloran with the STAR Rotarian Award for being the person behind the scenes to get our bookkeeping up and working again, keeping our bills paid and balancing our accounts.
Dan Halloran and his band of election workers have chosen their workshops and work times – you will see many of our club at the voting booths when you cast your vote Nov 8 - remember our club will be dark that day.
Debbi Corbett will be sending around a sign up sheet for The Rotary Foundation Dinner scheduled forNovember 16,at theFoothill Event Center, $50 per person. Our club will be receiving a 100% EREY Banner – that stands for Every Rotarian Every Year. Great job Club! Thanks Dan Halloran and Mark Fleming for your work in helping our club achieve this honor!
Mark Fleming led a discussion to choose Friday, Dec 16,for ourHoliday Gatheringat the Cook residence. Be sure to mark your calendars – it is a potluck, bring a gift to swap and be ready for a fun time. Many thanks to Betty Cook for wanting us in her home again.
Our annual Holiday food basket project is underway with turkeys being purchased for 30 families in the Penn Valley area. Nicole Van Vacas Gagnon, Debbi Corbett and Anna Dillavouare working this week to see if other community groups will partner with us in this endeavor. Club members will be needed for pick up items and filling the baskets, be watching for details.
Our club will sponsor Holiday Lights in the Park this year. Nicole Van Vacas Gagnon, Barbara Ross, Mike Dobbins and Dave Walker met with the Penn Valley Chamber of Commerce and are working out the details of signage, display, and other items. The activity will be held at the Western Gateway Park the evening of Dec 9th and 10th. Club members will be needed for display assembly, setup and take down. Be watching for more information as it progresses.

Jan Blake, Executive Director of Nevada County Conservation Resource District,was our speaker. We were all amazed by the amount of support the group can give to the homeowner. Jan gave us some grim facts regarding the Bark Beetles and our sick trees.
Next week our new member John Edmonds will speak on cemetery restoration work he has been a part of in the Redwood City area.
All this happened and we didn't have our lunch.Due to a power outage across the highway there was an influx of hungry patrons to Players, Dave was unable to handle meals for everyone. Dave apologized for the mishap of no lunch. Don’t miss next week – you never know what will happen at our meetings.
