Last Saturday's Avenues of Service Seminar
Last Saturday, before it was light enough to see the sky, cars loaded with sleepy Rotarians headed up to Reno for a jam-packed day at Avenues of Service. We were met with fierce winds that blew us sideways as we stepped out of the car and began unpacking easels, computers, Sergeant-at-Arm vests and other materials needed for the day, and snow by the end of the day!
There were 18 different breakout sessions to choose from including such topics as “Engaging New Members and Re-igniting Existing Ones”, “Participation, Organization, and Public Relations for Community Service Projects”, “Fellowship Activities and Other Great Meeting Ideas” and “Integrating Talks on Ethics and Vocations into Meeting” presented by our former AG Dennis Geare, and "New Needs, New Partnerships, New Projects" facilitated by Karen.
We all had extra time for bonding as we sat for about 1 1/2 hours outside Truckee waiting for a terrible accident (Cal-Trans reported 2 semi-trucks and 12 cars) to be cleared. Thank heaven for cellphones as calls were going back and forth to make sure all attendees from Area 4 (about 8 cars full) were safe and not involved. Yes, it was a full day but a rewarding one.
Coming Up Sunday: Golf for Our Kids
Can't wait to hear the stories that will result from our golfers heading to the links to raise some funds for our efforts in helping kids locally! Go get 'em!
Pizza for Polio
Mark your calendars -- Thursday, Oct. 24 is World Polio Day and we will be celebrating at Players all day. Players is donating $1 per pizza sold to our Polio Plus campaign, so come by and order a pizza and enjoy it there or at home. Encourage your friends and relatives to do the same! Don't forget -- no meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
All are invited to attend the first meeting of our Satellite Club at 5:30PM at Players -- we hope that some of our members who can't make our Noon meetings will be able to attend!
Our Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30PM.
