President Mark's Message  7/17
Thanks for you presence at our first Rotary year 2018/2019 Club Meeting., 10 July 2018.  We had a room full of folks including the four (4) new Presidents of the other Area 4 clubs, our new Area 4 Assistant Governor, Anita Daniels, two (2) visiting Lions Club members and one (1) visiting Rotarian. What a good start to the new Rotarian year for our Club.

Above is an empty basket wanting to be filled with goodies to be given to our new District Governor, Tina Spencer-Mulhern, during her July 24th visit to our Club Meeting. She will take the basket with her to be auctioned off at the next club she visits.  Debbie Corbett has already donated a bottle of wine.  You can bring your donations to the Tuesday, 17 July, 5:30 PM Western Gateway Park send-off for Barbara and Ted Ross. Or you can call me to arrange a transfer of goodies at 408 666-5615.

In conjunction with the Penn Valley Chamber of Commerce, we will have service opportunities on Saturday, 4 August 2018, in support of the 25th Roots and Wings Wine Cruise.  There will be 12 opportunities, 6 each during the 2:45-4:45 PM and 4:45-7:45 PM shifts.  We will be serving at the Hamilton’s residence in Lake Wildwood.  Look for a sign-up sheet during our next three get-togethers Last year we have a very good time helping to host this event at the Hamilton’s!

I hope to see you all at the Barbara and Ted Ross send-off (we will miss them) Party at Tuesday at 5:30 PM, Western Gateway Park! This party is in-lieu of our regular noon meeting. The cost is $6.00 for Mark Fleming’s famous chicken.  If you are coming, make sure Karen McDonald (karenmcdon@aol.com). Please bring your own drink and a side dish to share.

Board members: please mark your calendar for our meeting with the new AG Anita Daniels and DG Tina Spencer-Mulhern on Monday, 23 July 2018, at 4:00 PM Players Pizza.  After the meeting, we will dine with the DG Tina and her spouse Brian, club members are invited to join us for a no-host dinner.

Outstanding First Meeting
Mark Bailey ran an outstanding meeting on Tuesday, July 10th. The area Rotary club presidents and Assistant Governor Anita Daniels were on hand to cheer as Mark started his year as president.
Bob Kline introduced our speaker Richard Baker from Gateway Bike Park. Baker updated the club on the status of the bike park which Penn Valley Rotary gave start up funds through the District's matching grant program.  The County approval has been secured, the overall plan will include a pump track, strider track, mountain extreme practice area, dual slalom track, jump line, single track slow zone and a loop trail. The first element, road and parking lot should be completed by October with the full bike park completed by 2020. Baker feels that this will generate great family fun and opportunities for the surrounding area businesses. Donations are being taken through their website, gatewaybikepark.org When asked what Rotary can do to help, Baker suggested donating and designating a yearly work day at the park.
