President’s Message

Hi Everyone,

I sure hope you had the best Thanksgiving despite the calamities around us.  Sharing time with family or friends and reviewing the many things we have to be thankful for reminds us of how blessed we are no matter what our circumstances maybe.

All of us in some way or another know of at least one person who experienced loss of home or work place in the Camp Fire. As we discussed at our last luncheon, our District 5190 has established a Camp Fire donation fund through www.givingtrails.com Rotary District 5190 Emergency Fire Relief for individual donations or club donations.  These donations will go to the Rotary Clubs in the affected fire areas.  The goal of District 5190 is to raise $100,000.

Thank you Dan Halloran for your Rotary Foundation presentation.  Below are the highlights from Dan’s presentation.

  • Over the past five years, the Annual Fund generated an average rate of return of 6.5 percent and grew from $369 million to $464 million. The annual fund amount is invested over 3 years and then is used to fund projects
  • Over the past five years, the Endowment grew from $253 million to $404 million and generated an average annual return of 7.7 percent.Projects are funded from the interest income.
  • Over the last 100 years, the foundation has funded over $3 billion projects around the world to train future peacemakers, support clean water, and strengthen local economies.
  • PolioPlus donations are matched $1: $2 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and has eradicated 99.9% of new polio cases as of 2017/2018.
Thank you all for being donors to the Foundation.

We will be hearing about the Penn Valley Municipal Advisory Council at our Tuesday, 27 November 2018, luncheon.

I hope to see you all on Tuesday, 27 November 2018.
