Mark's ReMarks
Hi Everyone.

District Governor Tina Spencer-Mulhern’s visit went off without a glitch thanks to all of you who attended the July 23 Board Meeting and the July 24 Club Meeting.

Tina inducted into our club a new member, Lindy Beatie, who is transferring from the Passport Club.  Welcome Lindy!! We are excited to have Lindy in our club with her heart for community service and for Rotary.  That is a great combination and should “inspire” us in additional community service projects.

With only one meeting, pledges for the “Smiles without Borders” project was $190. These pledges will be combined with other District 5190 Rotary Clubs to purchase and install bright LED lighting in the surgery center in Ensenada, Mexico’s facility to support delicate Cleft Palate surgery for Mexican children.  Our donation of $300 will contribute to a District goal of $15,000 and combined with a matching District grant will enable the lighting to be installed.  Our donation will make a huge difference in the lives of some children enabling them to eat, talk, and lead a normal life.  What an opportunity we have.  Only $110 to go!!!!

Roots and Wings Wine Tour, August 4th, is just days away.   We have 6 signed up already to serve the first period, 2:45 – 4:45 PM.  We need 4 more sign-ups for the second shift, 4:45 to 7:45 PM.  The expectation is the Roots and Wings Foundation will raise somewhere close to $15,000 for school programs at our local schools.  Please be ready to signup to serve during our July 31st meeting.

We have a Board Retreat scheduled for Tuesday evening, July 31st.

We will have Bill Drown as our speaker on the 31st.  I understand Bill is quite the character.  Come to hear about the Grass Valley Police Volunteer program.

See you at noon on Tuesday, July 31st.

Membership Moment
By Bob Kline
Retaining members is one of the most challenging parts of membership.  Without a positive and clear plan, new members walk out the door as fast as they walk in and when asked why?  They generally say, “No one invited me to be involved!”  It is everyone’s responsibility to engage and inform new members.  The sponsor has an even greater role.

DG Tina Visit Highlights
DG Tina Spencer-Mulhern came with lots of ideas and a basket to auction for Polio Plus. DG Tina gave out several awards: from the district as MVPs to Lindy and Gordon Beatie, Doug and Karen McDonald. Our Club Quiet Rotarian was given to Debbi Corbett and our Club's MVP went to Barbara Ross. Congratulations all - thanks for your service to our club and to Rotary!
Our Club raised $1000 with the auction of Rotary Club of Placerville's basket. We then decided to give the basket to Roots and Wings Basket Auction. The following members made a donation of $100 toward Polio Plus: Lindy, Barbara, Karen, Debbi, Shelia, Bob, Dave, Greg, Kathy, and Rick.Thank you all for your donation, don't forget to bring your check!
Upcoming District activities are the Avenues of Service Seminar on Saturday, September 8th - for all club members to become stronger Rotarians, and the celebration of the year - Rotary 4 Way Fest May 17 - 19 . Both will be in Reno.
