From President Mike Dobbins

President Mike recognizes Jim McCabe as no longer a "New Member" as he removes the "New Member" sticker from his name badge!  Congratulations, Jim!

Reverand Earl Langguth shares about his new book "Gospel Illuminations" and his winning two poetry contests in Lincoln.  Congratulations, Earl!  We are fortunate to have you as a member of our community and a member of our club!

So we learned there was a madman helping George fight the Brits in 1776.  Not really, well...almost not really.

Our Treasurer—and former Prez, Dab Halloran, entertained us with a tiny bit of history few of us knew—even those of us who call themselves history wonks. (OK, just me).

Following his visit to several East Coast historical venues, Dan says he came away with a new insight to the turbulent years surrounding our declaration to become independent of Britain.  After recovering from a “musket ball to the head” in the early part of the 7-year war, “Gen. Mad Wayne” served on George Washington’s staff and guided his army successfully in a number of battles. Few could say that, including Washington.  Thanks, Dan.

Next week, September 19, Nick Wilcox, NID’s President of the Board will discuss the planned Centennial Dam slated for the southern part of the county near Lake of the Pines.

And, on October 3, Supervisor Ed Scofield will come and talk about the effort to fix and repair a portion of the Independent Trail in Nevada City. All five local Rotary Clubs are joining in this effort.
