President’s Message

Hi Everyone,

What a fun experience seeing a robot move about the lunchroom and perform tasks.  We learned about the FIRST program for teen robotics. These robotic students and advisors are reinforcing my faith in the youth of today.  Our future looks pretty good if these high school students represent a good size population of our teenagers. Acme Robotic's Go Fund Me page is https://www.gofundme.com/acme-robotics-season-funding. Their website is goacmerobotics.com.

We also had the honor of presenting a Paul Harris Award to Betty Cook for hosting our club Christmas Parties over years.  The Award occurred by the Club donating Club Foundation points in  Betty’s name.  Betty graciously attended our luncheon to accept the award. Yeah!!!!

On Tuesday, we will be getting an update on some of our Rotary projects.

Also, we will be voting on one of three past District Governors who will then be on the 2019/2020 Rotary International Director Nominating Committee.  The names are as follows:

Gail Ellingwood – DG 2015-2016
Steve Lewis – DG 2010-2011
Doug McDonald – D2017-2018

My vote will be for Doug!  How about yours?

There will be a Rotary Club Board Meeting following the Tuesday 2-12-2019 Luncheon.  All of you are welcome to stay.

I hope to see you on Tuesday, 12Feb2019, noon, at Players Pizza.

Upcoming Activities and Projects
Our Tuesday program will include an update on upcoming activities: the Distinguished Citizen Dinner honoring Hank Weston; the Little Libraries; the Daffodil Run, upcoming trainings and the next social.

Help Is Needed
We are looking for a Club member who would like to work tech support for our meetings. Responsibilities would include handling and setting up the laptop for meeting graphics and run video as needed. Please talk with Dave Walker or Lindy Beatie.

Save The Date: Sunday, April 7 - 19th Annual Joanie Bumpus Daffodil Run
Our Club will be supporting the Daffodil Run which in turn supports our Club plus other local service organizations and the needs of the victims of the Camp Fire. We help with the on-sight registration, handing out registration packets and giving directions. This will be our first year without Barbara Ross leading us in this activity - so let's show Barbara we can do this. Be watching for the sign up sheet. Want to take part in the walk/run? Sign up at http://daffodilrunpv.com/

Attention Club Leadership, Committee Chairpersons and Members
Club Leadership Assembly - CLA – April 6, 2019

Club Leadership Assembly will be held April 6 at The Nugget, in Sparks, NV. Every club’s leadership team plus new members and
all other interested club members should sign up to learn about next year’s vision and to start building the plan for our club’s 2019-
20 year. Registration on the district website, www.district5190.com. Contact Robin Milam for more info at robin@the-milams.com.

Club Community Service Project: Little Libraries Spark Interest
Lindy Beatie gave a presentation on the Little Libraries, which are small stand-alone book cupboards that are voluntarily stocked and kept. Our Club will be working to build at least six Little Libraries to be placed around the community - the Club was able to list nine local businesses where we thought a book exchange would be useful. Gordon Beatie is willing to cut the wood, and club members are needed to assemble, paint and stock the libraries as well as talk with community organizations and businesses to adopt a Little Library on their business grounds. Joanie Bumpus, Club Community Service Chair, will lead this project but your support is needed.

SOMETHING NEW ONLINE: TechEasy Webinars!
In January, our District 5190 piloted three TechEasy Webinars to help Rotarians understand how to navigate around our District 5190 website and the
Rotary International website – both the public pages and the members-only sections. Each webinar is between 45-60
minutes long. Now we are offering it to YOU!
PRESIDENTS ELECT: These are targeted for you! In February and March, we are offering these TechEasy Webinars again, with
our primary audience expected to be our Club Presidents Elect.
• 2/13 and 3/13 - Navigating the public side of our District 5190 & Rotary International websites
• 2/20 and 3/20 - Exploring the Members Only sections of district5190.org / District Clubrunner with a focus on entering/
changing Membership and Club Executive information, attendance, and District Grants
• 2/27and 3/27 - Exploring the Members Only sections of my.rotary.org with a focus on Rotary Club Central, the Brand
Center, entering/updating/viewing Club Goals, pulling club reports, personal donation history, and global grants – and
much more!
ALL PRESIDENTS ELECT ARE ENCOURAGED to attend the TechEasy classes to be better prepared for your year ahead.
More details will be coming out and will be posted on the district calendar. They will be offered live in February before
PETS, and in March before CLA. The recorded versions are also available for viewing on the District website. Go to the For
Members Tab, in the dropdown menu, hover over/select Training, then select District Webinars from that dropdown menu.
You will see TechEasy Parts 1 through 3. Watch at your leisure. For more information, please contact DGN Berta Pickett at
