January Rotary Theme: Vocational Services our local businesses whenever you can!!!
Last week's meeting....What a wonderful presentation about women in railroad history by our speaker Chris Enss...It was engaging, interesting, informative and very fun to hear the role women played in developing inventions that made rail travel more enjoyable and thus more prosperous...from more comfortable rail car riding to rail refrigeration, women played a very important role in the westward movement...Pick up Chris' latest book at The Booksellers in town, or Amazon called " Iron Women: The Ladies that helped build the Railroads"
On January 19, at our noon zoom meeting, we will hear from David West, Nevada County's Veteran's Services Officer. 
Penn Valley Rotary Club Board meeting: January 12 at noon...
February 16 @ noon meeting...Bill Tobin of the Rotary club of El Dorado Hills, will be talking about Shelter Box, a collaborative program with Rotary International that provides shelter during disasters around the world, as well as here in the US. 
SPECIAL SPEAKER EVENT!!...Rotary International President Nominee, Jennifer Jones, the first women to become Rotary International's president, will be speaking to our district on February 13 at 9 am...please mark you calendar...Information on links to follow...

Thank you very much again to all of you for helping out with Saturday morning's Xmas Tree Pick Up.  Looks like things went pretty well.  We filled all three WM bins and left a pile of trees that will require a 4th bin.  WM is delivering that today.  Preliminary numbers from Lindy are over $600 collected on Sat with mail ins yet to come.

ALSO, a very big THANKS to all the folks that helped - Brian Conforti and the Cub Scout Pak, Breanna Sanders and Eva from Interact and Breanna parents, Theo Van Vacas Gagnon, his dad Matt and his brother Pip, Randal and Monroe Bourk and friend, Lucca, Gene's friend Rich, John Sears Landscaping, Jerry and Elaine Westfall...hope i didn't forget anyone...It went fast (2.5 hours) collected over 140 trees and had a great community service time...Many Thanks also, to The Rental Guys for lending us three trailers...
***Some thoughts are circulating regarding the Daffodil Run...stay tuned for info on a virtual run plus other fun activities along the "route"...
***Dan Halloran reported he and toni have made an offer...fingers crossed ...Also a quick note to Bob Kline would be welcome...everyone is in transition...
*** If you know of a high school student who would like to participate in either the area Speech or Music contest, send a note to Lindy B...applications should be up on our website very soon...freshman through senior in HS eligible...

NOW IS A GREAT TIME TO INVITE A FRIEND TO JOIN OUR ROTARY CLUB...Dues for the second half of the year are only $75 for January 2021- June 2021....Invite them to a zoom meeting (it only takes attending two meetings to begin the membership process)...we've got some great projects going and welcome new ideas and fresh faces...
