Thank you for a wonderful welcome in my new role as your co-president!

Our club listened carefully on Tuesday when Grass Valley Police Chief Alex Gammelgard talked about scams and other types of incidents happening around our community.  Chief Gammelgard gave us some easy-to-do suggestions to stay safe such as locking our homes, picking up our mail daily, and being careful when answering inquiries on the phone.  Chief Gammelgard, a fellow Rotarian, is a member of the Nevada City 49er Breakfast Rotary Club.

Eric Trygg was made a Permanent Guest of our club with the presentation of his personal Penn Valley Rotary Club name badge.  Eric was also given a Rotary lapel pin denoting his club position of Program Chair again this year.  Thank you for all your support to our club, Eric.

Past President Mark promoted attendance at the River Cats game scheduled for Friday, August 19.  We meet at the Kmart parking lot ready for fun and great fellowship.  Rotarians from all 5 local Rotary clubs along with family and friends are welcome to join us for this fun evening.  Mark will give us more information as it gets closer.  Cost is slated to be around $40, depending on the attendance.  It will include the bus to and from the game, refreshments on board, and the game ticket – along with lots of fun!

We also congratulated Mark and Jan Fleming on their 35th Anniversary.  We wish them many more years of happiness.

Club members wish good health to Michael Green as he recovers from his surgeries.  We hope to see him next week.  Thanks to Gene Vander Plaats for stepping in this week as Sergeant-at-Arms.

Club Business:
  • Dues are due!  Get your check to Treasurer Dan Halloran as soon as possible ($150, payable to Rotary Club of Penn Valley).
  • Secretary Bob Kline has ordered Rotary vests for members to wear as we do work in the community.  Thanks to three of our members who contributed the cost of the vests – Debbi Corbett, Mike Dobbins and Dave Walker!
  • Foundation Chairs Pat Swope and Debbi Corbett requested that we make our annual contribution to the Rotary Foundation.  The minimum suggested contribution is $100 which makes you a Sustaining Member and counts toward a Paul Harris Fellowship (when total contributions reach $1000 or multiple).  Make your tax deductible check payable to The Rotary Foundation and give it to Dan for forwarding to Rotary International.
  • Pat and Debbi will be attending the Foundation Seminar for our Club this Saturday in Auburn.
  • Please remember to donate your Holiday Market POINTS to Penn Valley Rotary Club to be used in supplying local students’ families with food during the holiday season. Just tell the cashier that you want to donate your points to our Rotary Club and they will be able to take care of your request.
  • Mark your calendar for our “Bring A Friend” Fundraiser BBQ: Saturday, October 1. More information to follow.

This week, our local high school students who have returned from the RYLA leadership camp in Portola will be speaking to us about their experiences. Youth Services Chair Jeanne Puleo has invited the students sponsored by our club to share with us their stories and impressions of this great experience. Be sure to attend this week’s meeting!
