NOTES FOR Tuesday, September 10th

President Lindy is traveling in the Netherlands, so Past President Dan Halloran will be presiding this week.

Our speaker this week is Sheriff Shannan Moon. Sheriff Moon was sworn into her first term of office on January 7, 2019. She is a 29-year employee of the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Moon rose through the ranks at the Sheriff’s Office, and has served as a Correctional Officer, Transportation Officer, Deputy Sheriff, Major Crimes Detective, Narcotics Detective, Bailiff, K9 Handler, Search and Rescue Coordinator, Crisis Incident Negotiations Team member and Commander, Field and Jail Training Officer, Sheriff’s Sergeant, Sheriff’s Lieutenant, and Sheriff’s Captain.

She is a life-long resident of Nevada County, graduated from Nevada Union High School, and possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Management.

Sheriff Moon has a passion for our community and a proven track record in her everyday commitment toward increasing the quality of services provided to the community at the Sheriff’s Office. She leads by example, exemplifying the importance of staying connected, being responsive to neighborhood issues, development and mentoring of employees, forging collaborative relationships, and planning for the future.

We look forward to Sheriff Moon's visit to the Club.

Fairway Test - Golf for Our Kids is coming up on October 6th. Chair Gene vander Plaats needs two more golfers to round out our team, so if you can join the golfers, or know someone who would like to join us, let Gene know. The golfers need not be Rotarians.

Pledges can be made on our website (pennvalleyrotary.org) or use the pledge forms that Gene will have.

Avenues of Service Training will be presented by District 5190 on Saturday, September 28, 8:30 - 3:45, at Truckee Meadows Community College - All club officers, committee chairs, new club members and all Rotarians are invited to attend the day-long session to keep our club up to date with the latest Rotary information. The day will focus on Growing Rotary through increased membership, Rotary Foundation giving and grants, public image efforts, fundraising, service, and youth work. Let's carpool over the hill to continue the conversation. If you need more information or to register please go to rotarydistrict5190.org.

Our District Service Grant has been approved! The club's application for over $1400 in District Service Grant funds has been approved by the District Grants Committee. Funding will come from Rotary Foundation dollars administered by District 5190, and directed to the Breaking Down the Barriers program on October 29 at Ready Springs School. We have contracted with the RYLA and REGL leaders to come to Penn Valley to help the middle school students work better together.
