President’s Message

Hi Everyone,

I had no idea that the California YMCA Youth & Government program existed and is thriving in our local communities.  It was a thrill to hear about the program then meet some of the local High School Delegates who model our California Legislature and Court, create legislation, shepherd it through the different Legislature committees, hearing, etc.… and finally to the model Legislature at the California State Capitol.  It also reinforces that we have bright, responsible, and thoughtful high school students that will understand the working of government in our democracy who may be able to create bi-partisan legislation good for us all.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to serve our community at the Western Gateway Park Bike Park work day and the Rotary Area 4 North Star House Heritage
Garden work day.  The Bike Park is ready for the Contractor to start phase 1, the pump track.  The North Star House Heritage Garden’s work is now completed and ready for sun and a little rain to solidify the garden and start the growth of the vegetation.  Thanks to Joanie and Carle Bumpus, Debbi Corbett, Bob Kline and Lindy Beatie for their work, photos and video of the Western Gateway Park Bike Park work day.  Thanks to Mark Fleming (the original number 1 Mark) for working at the North Star House Heritage Garden project.

Our condolences to Bob Kline who fell and separated a shoulder over the week end.  Bob, please mend quickly.  We missed you last Tuesday.

Lindy Beatie and I got to see the completed North Star House Garden last Tuesday night and it is beautiful.  With the District 5190 Grant money and the Area 4 clubs' contributions, this project really is a major step in renovating and restoring this historical site to its former splendor. It still has a way to go but it looks amazing now but in a couple of years will look spectacular.

Don’t forget this Friday evening, March 29 is our Distinguished Citizen Dinner honoring Hank Weston at the Lake Wildwood Clubhouse Event Center (Cedar Room) at 6:00 pm.  Hank presence was welcomed last Tuesday at our luncheon where he was re-inducted into our Club.  We hope to see you there!!!

At our last Tuesday luncheon, there was general agreement to raise our luncheon price to $15.00 starting with our 2 April 2019 Tuesday luncheon. So, do not be surprised with the $3.00 increase in meal cost starting in April.

Of all things, Hank Weston, our returning Rotarian hit the raffle last Tuesday, However, Hank pulled a white marble out of the sack.  Sorry about that.

See you on Tuesday, 26 March 2019, noon at Player’s Pizza.

News From Pedro Spegorin - Our Brazilian Exchange Student 2014-2015
Pedro sent an email to the McDonald Family this past week. He is doing fine, finishing college and thinking of his future. He is considering attending an American university for his MBA. Lucky for him Cameron McDonald has been attending the Business School at UCDavis and was able to give him a good deal of information. Pedro wanted to be remembered to all of the club - he holds many great memories of his home away from home, Penn Valley Rotary.
