NID’s Chief PooBah, Nick Wilcox spent the better part on an hour—and a little more after the adjourning bell rang—explaining the complex job of water management and distribution in Western Nevada County.
His topic was about the process of planning, and building, the “Centennial Reservoir” in the south part of the county, above Lake of the Pines. Of course it’s controversial! Everything in Nevada County is. Nick was forthright in acknowledging that controversy, but explained in numbers the need for more water storage, especially in the future.
For whatever reason, climate is changing and affecting the rain and snowfall in the West. Less weather. Less water. More demand. Simple.
If all goes according to plan, the dam and resulting reservoir will be finished in 2021—100 years after NID was formed, thus the “centennial ” tag.
Tim O’Brian, longtime WW resident and phenomenal photographer, will be our guest Tuesday. His amazing images from the recent Nevada County Fly-In will provide an extraordinary experience for us.
The following Tuesday, October 3, Supervisor Ed Scofield will bring us up to speed on the Yuba River’s Independent Trail restoration project. All four of the other local Rotary Clubs have agreed to help. It’s our turn to step up.
Sidenote: Barry Gray and his lovely bride, Margie, celebrated their 65th year of wedding bliss this month! Yep, Barry says he was only two when they got married. He credits carrot cake as the glue to a successful marriage. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of that tasty treat, you know exactly what he means.
