NOTES FOR Tuesday, September 17th

President Lindy is traveling in the Netherlands, so Past President Doug McDonald will be presiding this week.

Our speakers this week are from the Bear Yuba Land Trust. Erika Seward currently serves as Co-Executive Director of Operations and Development for the Bear Yuba Land Trust. She fell in love with all things travel and the outdoors at an early age, growing up in sunny Central Florida where most days were spent hiking trails at nearby lakes and rivers or with spontaneous trips to the beach with friends.

After a decade in sports and entertainment at ESPN and Disney, Erika gained a strong appreciation for media’s influence and public responsibility. She decided to lend her corporate experience to non-profits.

She spent five years as Executive Director for Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) Foundation in Los Angeles. In 2015, she moved to Nevada City to, once again, be closer to nature and raise her children.

Fellow Rotarian Robin Milam is Past President of Nevada City Rotary.  A 20-year Nevada County resident, Robin is committed to protecting the Bear and Yuba watersheds and serving our community. Robin is especially proud of the role the Bear Yuba Land Trust serves in promoting a balanced approach for preserving critical landscapes and agricultural lands throughout our region and allowing for smart economic development.

Her broad business and internet marketing experience spans IBM, American Express, AirTouch Communications and her network of small business clients. She holds an MBA from Arizona State University.

Fairway Test - Golf for Our Kids is coming up on October 6th. Chair Gene vander Plaats needs two more golfers to round out our team, so if you can join the golfers, or know someone who would like to join us, let Gene know. The golfers need not be Rotarians.

Pledges can be made on our website (pennvalleyrotary.org) or use the pledge forms that Gene will have.

Avenues of Service Training will be presented by District 5190 on Saturday, September 28, 8:30 - 3:45, at Truckee Meadows Community College - All club officers, committee chairs, new club members and all Rotarians are invited to attend the day-long session to keep our club up to date with the latest Rotary information. The day will focus on Growing Rotary through increased membership, Rotary Foundation giving and grants, public image efforts, fundraising, service, and youth work. Let's carpool over the hill to continue the conversation. If you need more information or to register please go to rotarydistrict5190.org.

Our District Service Grant has been approved! The club's application for over $1400 in District Service Grant funds has been approved by the District Grants Committee. Funding will come from Rotary Foundation dollars administered by District 5190, and directed to the Breaking Down the Barriers program on October 29 at Ready Springs School. We have contracted with the RYLA and REGL leaders to come to Penn Valley to help the middle school students work better together.
