Mark's ReMarks
Hi Everyone,

From the comments last week from our RYLA Student and a first time RYLA Counselor, the experience is life changing for both students and counselors.  The Rotary RYLA Scholarship for these students does make a difference in lives beyond the students.
I am looking forward to having the recent REGL attendees share their experiences at with us.  We will work on scheduling them.

We still need a Xmas Basket “WOW” points gathering coordinator for a couple of days at Holiday Market in November and December.  Please consider this position and/or participating in the collection of those points to raise food funds for this year’s Xmas Baskets for food challenged students at our local schools.

As Joanie Bumpus announced, there is an opportunity to participate in a 4 hour clean up day at Western Gateway Park the 6th of October.  The weather should be nearly ideal for this activity.  See Joanie to sign-up for this local service opportunity.

The Roots and Wings Education Foundation’s charity golf event is upon us.  We may not be needed to help with the event but you could participate as a golfer.  To sign-up, go to the Foundations WEB Site.

As mentioned in the last Meeting, The Rotary Foundation Dinner is scheduled for Thursday evening, 25 October 2018, at the Gold Miner’s Inn (the old Holiday Express Hotel) in Grass Valley.  Please plan on attending.  The cost is $50/person.  A sign-up sheet will be circulated starting this coming 2 October meeting.

Dr. Bruce Golder is our speaker for our meeting.  We look forward to hearing from him.

Join us at the Rotary Foundation Dinner for  Area 4 !
by Foundation Chair Dan Halloran
The Area 4 Rotary Clubs, of which we are one, will be holding the 2018 Foundation Dinner at the Gold Miners' Inn in Grass Valley on Thursday, October 25, starting at 6pm.    Our speaker is  J.T. Capps, one of the most dynamic and entertaining of Rotary's inventory of superb dinner speakers!  Dinner will be by Antonio!  You can have Tri-tip, Salmon or Vegetarian, so make your choice!  We will also honor our New Major Donors, Paul Harris Fellows and Paul Harris Society Members; while the planning is still under way, it appears that we will be able to keep the cost down to $50 per person!  We have always had a good turnout for this annual event, and this year we will be joined by District Governor Tina Spencer and her husband Brian, and (of course) our own Past District Governor Doug McDonald and Karen.  The Club will be dark that Tuesday, the 23rd, to make room for this event, so let's all be there! For more information, chat with Dan Halloran. Sign up sheet will be going around at the October 2 meeting!

by Debbi Corbett - Food Basket Chair
Our Club Needs You!! Sign up sheet will be circulating at the club meeting for you to sign up!!
The Club is looking for a member/members who will coordinate the “WOW” point table at Holiday Market for a Saturday in November (11/17?) and a Saturday in December (12/8?).  Member can get all the necessary items (table, chairs, holiday tablecloth, sample sign up sheet, and notes to handout with our Club “WOW point” number) from Debbi.  Member would need to coordinate getting members signed up (signup sheet) to get the table is staffed to solicit points from shoppers - usually two people per 2 – 2 ½ hour shifts with two shifts: 10-12:30 and 12:30 – 3.  Then make sure the people remember they signed up and get items to/from Holiday (the table, chairs, etc.) on the two days.  The Points we collect cover the costs (about $3,000) for the Food Baskets!!  PLEASE HELP WITH THIS IMPORTANT PART OF OUR HOLIDAY BASKET PROJECT!!!!
