April Rotary Theme: Maternal and Child Heath Month
 
 
NEXT MEETING....TUESDAY, April 20 , Noon....watch for zoom link details from President Elect Joyce on Monday...The new president of the Penn Valley Chamber of Commerce, Gene Gilligan, will speak on the work of the Chamber post pandemic...he's eager to hear how our club can collaborate with the chamber for a healthy business community in the greater Penn Valley area.
Some background on Gene: Gene Gilligan taught Severely Handicapped and Orthopedically Handicapped students in Ventura County, San Mateo County, Placer County, and at Nevada Union High School. He has been retired for 10 years after teaching for 30 years. His love for running lead to his becoming the the Boys' Cross Country coach at Nevada Union. He has lived in Nevada County for 20 years. He is currently the Race Director for the annual Penn Valley Daffodil Run.

**May 4 "Welcome Back" club social, 5 pm...Western Gateway Park........Invitation from President Elect Joyce:
 
"Now that so many of our club members have been vaccinated and the State is starting to ease restrictions, the Penn Valley Rotary Club would like to welcome you back to fun by announcing our first social event for 2021!   Our first two events will be outdoors for safety reasons and now that the weather is nice, it should be fun and safe for all.     
 
Who:       all members, spouses, friends/family and guests
Where:    Western Gateway Park
Date:        May 4, 2021
Time:        5 pm until ......dusk?
What:       Bring your own dinner, beverage and a mask.  We will have dinner together and play cornhole and maybe a couple of other games such as Bocce, Cards, Mexican Train?  If you have a game to share, bring it along.
 
Why:         Fellowship is the key to Rotary's success and it has been way too long since we have enjoyed each other's company in person.

** June 8, 5pm  Demotion for President Pamela...Western Gateway Park. Bring your own drinks, main course will be ordered, pay at the door...have lots of fun and tell lots of Purple jokes!! more details to follow...
 
 
PLANTER BOX PLANTING...APRIL 29, 10 AM
On Thursday, April 29, we will be helping the students at Ready Springs School plant flowers in 10 brand new planter boxes. These boxes will be placed throughout the lower campus and will give the students a chance to nurture nature. We need at least 5-6 folks to help guide the students and teacher on this final project of our Ready Spring garden project...connect with Past Prez Lindy for details...lindybeatie@gmail.com
 
 
New Member Proposal
Membership Chair Mark Fleming is proposing Sharon Currie for membership in our club. Sharon is a new resident to our community from Santa Ynez, near Santa Barbara. She is a realtor with Re/Max and has been involved in many organizations during her years on the central coast.  Membership Chair Mark, President Elect Joyce Feldman and Past President Lindy met with her last week and the board unanimously approved her membership.  Unless there are any objections presented to President Pamela by April 24, we will be inducting Sharon as a new member at the May 4 social. 
THE DISTRICT CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD MAY 1 & 2,  CELEBRATING THE 20-21 ROTARY YEAR...GREAT SPEAKERS, FUN ACTIVITIES AND AWARDS WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED!  THIS CELEBRATION IS VIRTUAL SO YOU CAN ENJOY ALL THESE EVENTS FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME IN YOUR JAMMIES!!!

NOW IS A GREAT TIME TO INVITE A FRIEND TO JOIN OUR ROTARY CLUB...Dues for the second half of the year are only $75 for January 2021- June 2021....Invite them to a zoom meeting (it only takes attending two meetings to begin the membership process)...we've got some great projects going and welcome new ideas and fresh faces...
