Mark's ReMarks
(Mark has the week off, this week's column by Club Administration Chair Karen McDonald)

Hope everyone enjoyed a week without our Tuesday Rotary meeting.

Several of our Club's members are heading to Reno this weekend to take part in the Avenues of Service Seminar. Good luck to those who are presenting. Everyone can bring back information that will continue to grow our Club and increase the influence we can have on our community.

Next opportunity for training will be a Rotary Institute Leadership (RLI) seminar held locally - be watching for the information. The RLI seminars are great for tenured and new members alike - lets get a group together to build our knowledge of Rotary and meet other Rotarians in our area.

When you are calendaring your fall events, be sure to add Thursday, October 25 for our Area 4 Foundation Dinner. There will be a new venue and it's always an inspirational evening. More information to come.

It is a beautiful time of year for a drive in the country, how about attending the graduation of our local students from REGL (Rotary Eighth Grade Leadership) Camp. Sunday, September 23, lunch at Grizzly Creek Ranch in Portola, CA. More information in next week's SPOKE.

After this week's meeting, Tuesday, September 11, we will be having a Board meeting, all members are invited to stay for the meeting. Board members and committee chairs should be in attendance for this meeting.

Membership Moment
by Membership Co-Chair Bob Kline
We are nearing 3 months into our Rotary year. Look around our community for potential members and be ready to discuss the benefits of Rotary with them.  Many times this person may be right in front of us, too close to see – the educator, consultant that works at home or that small business owner.  Don't be stingy – Share Rotary.

WELCOME New Member Pam Yazell!
Our newest member, Pam Yazell, is no newcomer to Rotary, she has served Rotary as a Club President with Rotary Club of Nevada City 49er Breakfast and an Assistant Governor for our local Area 4 Rotary District 5190. Dan Halloran is her sponsor. Be sure to give Pam a friendly welcome as she gets to know our Club.

Interested in Helping the Cambodia Water Project - Speaker David Emery
by Doug McDonald
Our recent speaker David Emery shared with us the need for funding clean water projects in Cambodia. He was passionate about his organization’s ability to provide water collection and storage in addition to water filtration systems to the Cambodian population in need.

Projects are funded by outside sources, and the recipients participate by paying on a sliding scale to a community fund for maintenance and upkeep of the projects in their community.

If you are interested in helping, please send a check to the Penn Valley Rotary Foundation, which will collect the funds and forward them in our name to the Bareebo organization. Be sure to write “Bareebo” on your check.

Evening at RiverCats a GREAT HIT!

Thank you to Mark Fleming for another grand evening at the ball park! We watched the RiverCats win, a spectacular fireworks show, and enjoyed great fellowship with fellow Rotarians. Thanks also to Mark's friend John for all his work in preparing the bus snack and drinks.

Retired US Foreign Service Officer and Former US Ambassador to Uganda
Stephen Browning's talk on Tuesday, August 28th, was clear and informational, a great description of the role of our U.S. Ambassadors  and how the U.S. foreign service works in international communities. Maybe Stephen will come back and give us another talk about his journey through his career with U.S. Foreign Service. Thank you Stephen Browning for your service to our country.
